Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

NET is an evidence based, structured, and short-term treatment for trauma-spectrum disorders. It is used specifically for those who have experienced multiple traumas throughout their life. It is highly researched and has been successfully implemented in a variety of contexts, cultures, and communities.

During treatment, the client and therapist construct a chronological narrative of the person’s life story with a special emphasis on integrating one’s traumatic experiences in a more complete and coherent manner. In so doing, the person begins to experience fewer symptoms and can better make meaning of the trauma they have experienced.

NET has been found to be effective among many diverse populations. It is intended for those who are exhibiting symptoms of trauma-spectrum disorders and who have experienced multiple traumas throughout the lifespan. It has been found to be effective even when there is ongoing trauma, unrest, and instability.
